Australian artists and journalist, David Henry Souter was born in Aberdeen, Scotland in March 1862. He studied art and later journalism when he moved to Natal in 1881. Souter married Jessie Swanson and in 1886 they moved ot Australia, eventually settling in Sydney in 1887 where Souter worked as an illustrator, contributing cartoons to the Tribune.
